FATHER and son, Shaun and Ricky Whyte, will clash when the 2019 motor racing season gets underway tomorrow with the staging of the Ezytrack Race Day at Donnybrook in Harare.
The duo will be part of a big field in what promises to be a day of some high octane main circuit racing as Zimbabwe’s best drivers and riders battle for glory against each other.
This will be the first main circuit racing event of the year with lots of exciting racing from six different car classes and Superbikes.
The Whytes, who are also into motocross, will fight it out against some of the country’s top bikers mainly from Harare and Bulawayo.
The Superbikes race will also see the likes of Mathew Schultz from Bulawayo, Ashley Thixton, Tristan Grainger, Carl Olsen, Uli Meiners and Jan Nel competing for the top honours.
Like the Whytes, Thixton and Grainger are also into motocross racing.
Sables Motorsport Club chairman, Jim Perry, who will be competing in the Saloon cars’ Class A, is expecting some tough competition from the young drivers.
The 52-year-old is confident that his experience will work out against his rivals.
“On Sunday it will be a tough challenge especially for me because I will be competing with the young drivers who are 22-years-old whilst I’m 52-years-old. But that will not make me a loser at the end.
“I believe that experience is going to matter and it will work in my favour to win the event against the young competitors,” Perry said.
The event, which saw 35 drivers and 13 bikers from Bulawayo and Harare provinces dominantly register to participate, is expected to pull a lot of motor racing fans from across the country.
Racing tomorrow starts at 10am.
