After successfully completing their season, the Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) has shifted focus to the upcoming elective congress and the awards night lined up for June.
The recently concluded exciting season saw giants dislodging the past three years’ champions Southern Mavericks to claim the bragging rights in the men’s category.
Southern Mavericks women’s side on the other hand was too good claiming top spot followed by Lakers in a season BBA once again ran without any sponsorship, only surviving from club subscriptions and donations by board members.
The region’s representatives in the inter clubs championships found the going tough as defending women’s champions Mavericks surrendered their dominance.
With the league action completed, focus now shifts to the awards ceremony set for the 9th of June with the major highlight being the elective congress slated for Saturday the 10th of June.
According to the BBA secretary general, Howard Phangwana, indicated that it was a board resolution to ensure there is continuity hence a decision to have four of the current sitting members to be nominated for re-election.
With all the mandatory constitutional requirements of announcement of notice and sending out of nomination forms already met, the fate of who will lead the league now lies on the 12 member electoral college that includes the 10 member clubs and representatives from National Association of Primary School Heads (NAPH) and National Association of Secondary School Heads NASH.
