ZIMBABWE-BORN British welterweight boxer Tamuka Muchapondwa trades leather with Mexican Fernando Valencia in a six-round bout at the Bracknell Leisure Centre tomorrow. The welterweight bout is part of several bouts lined up for the day, with the programme starting at 3pm.

The main bout features South Africa-born Luther Clay and Muchapondwa’s training partner O’Shane Clarke.
Dubbed “The Return Of Too Much,” the non-title contest against the Spain-based Mexican, Valencia, offers Muchapondwa an opportunity to resurrect a career that has been stagnant since his May 10, 2017 loss to Cameroon-born Serge Ambomo.
Muchapondwa has won all but one of his 17 fights since turning professional in 2012.

However, he has been out of the ring for almost two years, with various bouts being either cancelled or postponed.
“I have waited for too long for this opportunity and I will grab it with both hands. I am going to win. My target is to fight the British champion Chris Jenkins.

“I want to make sure I leave a legacy that honours my family, so every time I step through the ropes, the aim is always to be victorious,” he said.

Muchapondwa will not be short of support. His 73-year-old grandmother Sofia Chirimuta and his mum Olga Chirimuta will be in the crowd.

“I am happy that my grandmother will see me box for the first time in England before she goes back to Zimbabwe.
“She, together with my mother, will be part of the crowd and that is an inspiration for me. My mother has always been there for me and has never missed my fight,” said Muchapondwa.
