Albert Marufu in LONDON, England
ZIMBABWE-BORN British boxer Tamuka Muchapondwa gets a chance to get his career back on track in a non-title bout against Mexican Fernando Valencia here next month. The six-round welterweight division bout, which is a prelude to the main bout featuring South Africa-born Luther Clay and O’Shane Clarke, will be staged at the Bracknell Leisure Centre in Bracknell, England, on March 17.

Muchapondwa, who is based in Reading, has won all, but one, of his 17 fights since turning professional in 2012.

Unfortunately the Harare-born pugilist’s career has been stagnant since the loss to Cameroonian Serge Ambomo on May 10, 2017. The 25-year-old, who became a boxing sensation in Britain after winning all his first 16 professional fights before the loss to Ambomo, says this is now the chance to reclaim his place among the exciting boxing prospects in the UK.

“The main goal is to become a world champion but, before that, I want to win the British and European titles.

‘’I have faced many disappointments in the past two years. I hope this fight will go on as planned so that I can repay my supporters for their support.

“I want to thank all my supporters in Zimbabwe and England. I will definitely win this fight. The main goal is still to become a world champion but before that, I want to win the British and European titles first. ‘’I have remained focused and disciplined,” said the Harare-born pugilist.

In the main bout Clay will trade leather with Muchapondwa’s training partner Clarke. Muchapondwa’s opponent Moreno is still to win a bout in six of his previous fights bringing to eight the number of losses in 16 professional bouts. The Spain-based pugilist will be boxing Shaquille Day a week before fighting Muchapondwa.
